KPFZ Benefit Concert with Jim Malcolm on February 2, 2018

Jim Malcolm in ConcertLove Celtic music?  Then do not miss this opportunity to see Jim Malcolm on Friday, February 2, 2018, as he performs a benefit concert for KPFZ at the Arts Council Gallery.  The show begins at 8 p.m.

According to Jim's biography, 'Jim Malcolm is the ultimate Scots troubadour. Travelling the world with his guitar, harmonicas, and engaging wit, he sings the traditional songs of Scotland and his own masterfully crafted songs in a style which is modern and accessible, yet utterly authentic. He is highly regarded as an interpreter of the songs of Robert Burns, and has been described as “one of the finest singers in Scotland in any style”.'

Tickets are $20 for KPFZ members and $22 for the general public.  You may purchase tickets at Watershed Books at 350 N. Main Street in Lakeport, the Arts Council Gallery at 325 N. Main Street in Lakeport, or by calling 707.262.0525.  The Gallery is an extremely intimate performance venue so you'll want to be sure to purchase your tickets in advance.

Citizen Lake Hosts Lieutenant Governor Candidate Gayle McLaughlin

Candidate for the California Lieutenant Governor’s race,  Progressive Gayle McLaughlin will be a special guest on Lake County Community Radio’s (KPFZ, 88.1fm)  “Citizen Lake.” The program can be heard on Saturday, January 13, from 9 to10 a.m.

McLaughlin has made world-wide headlines when she, as Mayor, led her Richmond CA community in their fight for justice. This included increasing minimum wage, fight for better jobs, better public education, better care for the environment. She initiated a lawsuit against Chevron for damage to the local population, She also forced Chevron to pay an additional 7.5 million per year in taxes.

Supporting Richmond CARES (Community Action to Restore Equity and Stability), Gayle endorsed foreclosure prevention, and a Community Choice program leading to cheaper and greener energy. Under her leadership homicides were reduced 75% in 8 years.

Gayle strength in fighting against the corruption of money in politics has earned her the epithet “The Bernie Sanders of the Bay Area”. Endorsed by Our Revolution chapters throughout the country, she has proven her commitment to the principles of Sanders affiliates. 

The public will have a chance to ask questions and listen to a woman whose accomplishments are outstanding and invigorating. With the upcoming January 20 Women’s Marches, Gayle McLaughlin represents the substantial power of women.

KPFZ Board of Directors Meeting on January 18 at 6:15 p.m.

The Board Of Directors meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 6:15 p.m.  The meeting is held on the third Thursday of each month.

Board members will meet upstairs in the KPFZ office at 149 North Main Street in Lakeport. The public is always encouraged and welcome to attend. There is an agenda item for Public Input for items not on the agenda.  Each speaker has up to 3 minutes.  Please check in with this website or the KPFZ station at 707-263-3640 for meeting agendas and any updates.
