Sandra Wade

Celebrating the Life and Works of

Sandra Wade

Sandra Wade

1944 - 2017

Born in Hertfordshire, England, Sandra Wade came to Lake County in 1970, settling in Lower Lake in 1977.

Sandra served as President of the Lake County Writer's Guild, helped publish numerous magazines, and was instrumental in establishing the Lake County Arts Council in the early 1980s.

Selected as Lake County's Poet Laureate in 2006, she encouraged creative writing and open mics throughout the county, spearheaded the Poetry Out Loud program in local high schools, and represented Lake County by attending gatherings of Poets Laureate..

Sandra was active in the creation and growth of KPFZ 88.1 FM, the county's first FCC-licensed, listener supported radio station, serving as an LCCR Board member and Board President, and hosting "Accent on Words," a weekly literature program. According to founder and Station Manager Andy Weiss, "Sandra was always a great lover of community radio--because community radio is composed of unique sounds and ideas--both of which she embraced. She brought those qualities to the early days and the seeding of KPFZ."

She returned to England, where she continued to be active in the Arts community.

July 2017 Schedule Changes

There are a lot of program changes -- some already implemented, and some in the works.

Soul Food (with Corey Jones) is now live on Sundays at 8 am.  Pulse Pangea (with Lisa Lehmer) gets a repeat on Fridays at 9 pm.

Tee Watts has retired from programming, for health reasons. All of us at KPFZ would like to express our gratitude, and wish him the best possible outcome. Tee is still on the LCCR board.  His "Cybersoulman Review" is being continued, in his honor, as "Doc's R&B Review", Tuesday 3 pm, replaying Wednesday 7 pm.  Tee's 5 am Sunday morning show Redemption Songs will play old shows from the archives.

The Taira St John Show and New Dimensions swap days : Taira on Tuesdays 2-3 pm, New Dimensions on Wednesday. New Dimensions also gets a replay, replacing Christian Perspective (at least for the summer) 8 am Sunday.

"The Grooveyard Shift" has been replaced by replays of "Big Heart/Big Art" and "Kila the Magic Husky" shows, and is then off-air after 1am.

Alternate Currents is replaced by The Thom Hartman Program, 9 am Wednesday  ... a pre-recorded nationally syndicated call-in show.

Donna's new music show is The Coffee Girl, airing  7-9 am Monday and repeating 8-10 pm Saturday.

Three additional new shows are in the pipeline, pending scheduling and staffing. (If you want to help ... volunteer as a board operator!)

If you spot an error in the schedule, please use the contact form and select "Web Master".

As Andy reported to the board : "Whew!"

Rockin' the Lake's "Q" Wins Star Award

Susie "Q" Novak and GelattoCongratulations to KPFZ's own Rocker Chick, "Q", on winning the Spirit Award at the Lake County Stars award ceremony held on Saturday, February 11, 2017!

The Lake County Stars is sponsored annually by the Lake County Chamber of Commerce.  The event is designed to recognize individuals, organizations, and business that go above and beyond in Lake County.  Anyone can submit letters to nominate someone they feel deserves recognition.  In addition to the publicly nominated categories, there is a category for the Spirit Award.  The recipient of this award is chosen by the Selection Committee from the nominations received.  It is intended to recognize those who epitomize the spirit of Lake County.

"Q" aka Susie Novak was nominated in the Woman of the Year category.  While she did not win the Woman of the Year award, "Q" won the Spirit Award.  She was nominated for the work she did in establishing and coordinating the Community Care Center at the Brick Hall in Lower Lake after the Clayton Fire.  Q arranged for permission to use the hall, worked with other agencies to provide services, organized volunteers, cooked, cleaned, shopped, and whatever else needed to be done.  Q also brought Rocker Dog Gelatto to the hall where he served as the Lower Lake Ambassador to greet and help comfort those affected by the fire.

Take a minute to call and congratulate "Q" during the live broadcast of Rockin' the Lake on Wednesdays between 3-5 p.m.  We've always known how awesome "Q" is and now the rest of the county does too!  The studio can be reached by calling 707/263.3435.  Rockin' the Lake is rebroadcast on Saturday mornings from 3-5 a.m.
