KPFZ has returned to regular programming after the Valley Fire emergency. Continue to tune in to 88.1 FM, and/or call the Studio line at 707/263-3435 if you need or have information. (Some programmers may take calls off-air.) Here are some quick links :

  • The Lake County Office of Emergency Services (OES) 24-hour local support line is : 888-565-2787. Also check their facebook page
  • The Lake County Local Assistance Center (LAC) website has useful information. The Local Assistance Center is now called the "Disaster Recovery Center" -- and is still at the Senior Center, 21256 Washington St, Middletown -- 9 am to 9 pm. (In the library building, at least until Oct 3).
  • FEMA is now ready to help people affected by the Valley Fire. They recommend that you register by calling 800-621-3362 or visiting the FEMA Website. Or you can go to the (renamed) Disaster Recover Center in Middletown, where FEMA has an office. You will need your Social Security Number, and information about your house and any insurance. Note. You may be eligible for grants and SBA loans even if you have insurance. If you were affected by the Rocky or Jerusalem fires you are NOT ELIGIBLE for FEMA assistance.
  • Sign up for FREE Fire Debris Disposal by completing a "Right of Entry" form at the Disaster Recovery Center (see above) or call the Lake County Environmental Health Department : 707-263-1164. After your property is cleaned you will get a certificate, which will be required when you apply for building permits. If you try to do it yourself you will have to pay for all the chemical tests, toxic waste disposal and the certification.
  • Volunteers : North Coast Opportunities has a list of over 170 volunteer positions, including organisations such as the Local Assistance Center, various Churches and Shelters. Or call 707-929-3563, Ext. 2. Any organisation which needs volunteers can register with them.

  • The official list of damaged or destroyed properties is at Lake County LAC. As of 9/25/15 the incident report says that the fire has destroyed Approximately 1,958 structures, including 1,280 homes, 27 multi-family structures, 66 commercial properties, and 585 other minor structures such as outbuildings and sheds. In addition, 93 structures have been damaged including 41 homes, 7 commercial properties and 45 other minor structures. This is almost 4% of Lake County's stock of about 34,000 homes.
